With just 5 minutes preparation, you can make your own allergy-free granola from as little as £2.65* for 500g. You can even tailor it to include all the ingredients you love, and none of the ones you don’t!
Granola is so easy to make, that in less than an hour, you’ll have a delicious batch of granola that will keep you going all week.
Once you have mastered this recipe, swap and change any of the seeds and fruits. You can add in nuts if you are not allergic, leave out the friut completely or swap it for dried banana chips, dried pineapple and coconut for a tropical version.
For the lowest cost granola – use 150g raisins as your dried fruit. The recipe below uses a mix of unsulphurised apricots, dates and raisins and works out at around £3.20* per 500g, still saving you 50p on the own-brand versions.
A note here on sugar content. Each serving provides 11g of sugar, but only 5g is classed as ‘free sugar’ – from the honey. The natural sugar in the dried fruit is not counted towards your recommended daily maximum of 30g per day. However, if you do need to lower the total sugar content, simply swap the dried fruit for pumpkin seeds and add them in with the sunflower seeds before baking. This will give you just 5g of total sugar per 40g serving.

- Heat your oven to 150C/130C fan, and line 2 large baking trays with baking paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the oats and seeds. Tip in the vegetable oil and mix well (clean hands are best).
- In a jug, measure out the 100ml of honey, and then add 50ml warm (not boiling) water from the kettle, and mix well. Tip into your bowl of oats and seeds, and mix again.
- Spread out on your baking trays into a thin, even layer. Bake for 50 minute, stirring halfway through.
- Leave to cool on the trays, and when cold, add in the dried fruit .
- This keeps in an airtight container for several weeks (although it gets eaten well before that in our house!).
